Brownfield sophomore Kate Hesse finished seventh at the Class 3A cross country state meet Saturday in Round Rock.
Hesse clocked in at 11 minutes, 54.1 seconds for the 2-mile course. It was her second time to qualify for the state meet.
On the boys’ side, Brownfield’s Kanyon Cantrell had the best local result. He ran the 5K course in 17:05.4 to place 38th. Roosevelt’s Justice Jackson (53rd, 17:17.9) and Billy Bond (55th, 17:23.9) led the Eagles to 12th in the team standings.
In 5A, Coronado’s Zanashia Harris closed her high school career 30th in a 5K time of 19:16.7. It was Harris’ third state meet.
Monterey’s Sydney Smothers ran a 19:50.0 to place 58th.
On the boys’ side, Lubbock High’s Arturo Rodriguez finished 58th in 16:39.5.
Jayton junior Jace Chisum placed fourth in the 1A girls meet. She ran the 2-mile course in 12:07.9.
Kress’ Hope McClain (12th, 12:50.0), Jolee Pigg (26th, 13:13.0) and Springlake-Earth’s Aabriella Villanueva (27th, 13:14.7) also represented the South Plains in the top 30.
O’Donnell’s Eduardo Cedillo and Jayton’s Griff Reel led the local contingent with top-10 finishes on the boys’ side. Cedillo clocked a 17:17.7 and Reel 17:22.4 to place ninth and 10th, respectively.
Jayton’s Sean Stanaland (13th, 17:35.1), Sands’ Carlos Plata (18th, 17:53.7), Jayton’s Zech Mosley (27th, 18:11.5) and Petersburg’s Aiden Beversdorf (30th, 18:20.7) made the top 30.
